What part of "Beta" was unclear to you?
Did you not read this on the download site?
Note: This is beta code and should not be used in a production environment or on a main machine in the home. Beta 2 is intended for developers, IT professionals and technology experts to continue or begin their testing of Windows Vista. Before you decide to use Beta 2, you should feel comfortable with installing operating systems, updating drivers, and general PC troubleshooting. Some risks of using beta operating systems include hardware and software incompatibility and system instability. If you have concerns about installing this beta software on your computer, we encourage you to obtain the final release version of Windows Vista when it is available in 2007.

Did you read the disclaimer before installing this BETA software? Do you understand the concept of Beta software? The whole idea of beta software is to find bugs before the software is released for sale. If you found some bugs you should report them. There is a tool on the desktop for this purpose. If all the Beta users do this there will be less bugs in the final product. Maybe you won't have to buy that Apple if you report the bugs, although I must admit the new Macs are pretty nice. Once the software catches up to the switch to Intel I might buy one myself.

I suspect an uproar from all the media when vista gets released.. they are keeping it somewhat quiet now (well not that quiet) but once they release it, it will be shredded to pieces by the people who know what real computing is.

Oh I forgot to say that they are not shredding it to pieces NOW is because the excuse is from everyone "its still beta, its still beta" as if there will be a miracle in the RTM...
They dont have much interest in changing it a lot, they are focusing on bugs now... so you can understand what will be introduced the public...
oh.. not everyone can understand... I mean some can understand... well.....kinda....

Can you tell me who these "people who know what real computing is" are? I have a pretty good knowledge and experience of computers going back to the PDP-11, CP/M, Pet etc. Vista has it's problems but overall looks pretty good for a Beta product. It's more stable than the Windows 95 pre RC1 (aka Chicago) builds were.

What gives you the right to speak for "everyone"?
I
have enough functioning brain cells to be able to install Vista.
I have enough functioning brain cells to dual-boot, so a bad load wont cost anything.
I have enough functioning brain cells to determine if my hardware can support Vista.
I,
for one, am glad that you'll not be buying Vista. You are just one less rank amateur who won't need any hand holding.
Why don't you go find some cheese to go with your whine?

You're pretty vague but I expect there will be many people saying Vista is crap when it is released. That has been the case for all major releases of software from all developers that I can think of. Whether the naysayer's are right or merely luddites only time will tell.

Although I comply to this requirement, I must give up too...
I used a brand new machine, a Compaq Pentium D 930 and installed the 64-bits Vista version on the empty second partition.
First install: after the second reboot I ended up with a black screen. Safe Mode did not work either. System Restore on the DVD did not show any restore points. No options left but
Second install: same problem
Thrid install: This time I made a Restore Point directly after the install and repeated this after each, even minor, change in my configuration, so I could go back to previous Restore points. I had to go back to previous restore points every 2 reboots. And even when I joined the machine to a domain containing Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 server I lost this domain membership with every restore of the system. This third install failed after I had used bcdedit to remove the old install directories and it appeared that all my restore points for my working install were removed. Now I am staring at a black screen again..
No, I will not install it a fourth time. It takes too much of my time. I'll wait for the RC...
